Carrie is a poet, photographer, and teacher.
Carrie George received an MFA in poetry from the Northeast Ohio MFA program and Kent State University. She is a recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award in Poetry, and co-editor of Light Enters the Grove: Exploring Cuyahoga Valley National Park through Poetry. Her chapbook, Unbecoming, was selected by Farnaz Fatemi as the winner of the 2024 Flume Press Chapbook Contest.
Carrie has taught poetry in schools, parks, and community centers and worked for organizations including The Wick Poetry Center, The Academy of American Poets, Lit Youngstown, and Writers in Residence.

She formerly coordinated the Mapping Akron project at the Wick Poetry Center, and worked as Manager at Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre. She holds a BS in journalism from Kent State University.
Carrie has photographed for clients including the Female Filmmakers Initiative, Destination Imagination, Visit Harford, Major League Photos at The Ripken Experience, and The Harford Center. She worked as content and communications specialist at Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio, and is currently a freelance marketing specialist and teaching artist.
More than anything, Carrie is grateful for all the generous artists and teachers who gave her room to grow.
